From third grade, I chose the standard LAFS.3.W.2.6. This standard focuses on reading comprehension: being able to remember details from online and physical sources, and to be able to take accurate notes summarizing what the student has read. I believe that the ability to take notes in a simple form is such an important skill to teach early on in education, as it can come in handy throughout a student's entire educational life. I feel mostly prepared to teach this because so many of my teachers throughout the years have reserved lessons to teach us the most effective, efficient, and easy way to take notes. I would definitely try to familiarize myself with simpler formats as this is a third grade class, but I feel mostly confident in my note-taking and reading comprehension skills to teach this lesson.
From CPALMS, I would choose to implement a lesson in math using real world applications. This lesson is a two day group project in which students will have four number lines, and their task is to divide each one up equally into fractions between 0 and 1. For the four different number lines, they have to be divided into different intervals. On the second day, it will be explained that they are creating a running race and that the students have to place water stations at equal intervals along the course. They must choose a certain number line and explain how each water station is equal distance from each other. I would use this in my classroom because it not only allows students to understand this concept by applying it to real-world examples, but it also allows students to work together and collaborate.
It is important to be a proficient internet searcher as a teacher because if you're going to teach your students something, you have to know how to do that skill as well. Teaching internet searching skills to students at a young age is important in today's age because technology is what we revolve around. I will definitely be using the "advanced search" tool in the future. It seems very helpful for broader searches, especially since in the past I have had experiences with not being able to narrow my search down enough for the one thing I needed to find. It seems like advanced search would do a lot to help narrow down searches.
